What is largest hadrosaurs?

The largest known hadrosaur is Shantungosaurus, which lived in what is now China during the Late Cretaceous period, around 70 million years ago. It measured up to 15 meters (49 feet) in length and weighed around 16,000 kilograms (35,000 pounds).

Other large hadrosaurs include:

  • Parasaurolophus, which measured up to 10 meters (33 feet) in length and weighed up to 2,750 kilograms (6,060 pounds)
  • Edmontosaurus, which measured up to 12 meters (39 feet) in length and weighed up to 4,000 kilograms (8,800 pounds)
  • Anatosaurus, which measured up to 8 meters (26 feet) in length and weighed up to 1,000 kilograms (2,200 pounds)

All hadrosaurs were herbivores and had a distinctive duck-billed snout with hundreds of sharp teeth that they used to grind tough plant material. They also had a series of complex air passages in their skull that may have been used for communication or to produce distinctive calls.
